“I’ve been waiting for you.”
Turtlestar froze mid step, she knew she had cause scent of a stranger but it had been a long day and she really didn’t have the energy to seek that cat out. Her plan was to go back to camp and send out a border patrol to find it, she guessed she wouldn’t have to do that now as she squinted up into the tree searching for the owner of the voice. Not too high above her sprawled on a low hanging branch was a large smoke black tabby tom looking at her with a twinkle of amusement in his orange eyes.
“Do I know you?”
“Not yet. You want to though.”
“Ha. Do I?”
“Just wait, you’ll see.”
Turtlestar laid her ears back with annoyance as she watched the tom jump from the branch and land only a mouse tail away from her nose. He beamed with confidence and despite the fact she didn’t want to admit it, she did want to know who he was.
“How can you be so sure?”
“If you don’t want to I guess I will just leave.”
The tom shrugged his shoulders before stretching his back legs and walking away leaving Turtlestar completely baffled. What had just happened? This cat literally drops out of nowhere in front of her, spews nonsense, and just walks away. The worst part was somehow his little game had worked and she found herself bounding after the tom following the trail of arrogance.
“Alright wait!”
The tom paused mid-step and looked over his shoulder with a grin on his face. It was like he knew Turtlestar would follow. The look sparked even more annoyance in her.
“See. I was right.”
“That’s enough with your little games. Who are you and why are you on my territory?”
Turtlestar was slightly surprised by the harshness in her tone. She hardly ever lost her temper with other cats and was always welcoming to travelers but this tom just got under her skin and it seemed like he knew it too. He turned to face her nose to nose. His whiskers tickled her face as he spoke.
“I can answer the first part of your question easily. I’m Lizardsun. Now, for the second part my answer isn’t so simple and I am not sure you’d be interested in hearing my entire life story.”
Turtlestar glared at him as her tail sliced through the air again.
“Alright, alright, to keep it simple I am looking for a new clan.”
“And so you thought we’d take you in?”
Nonchalantly, Lizardsun shrugged his shoulder once more that sent another wave of annoyance through Turtlestar. She studied him a moment considering his request. He didn’t seem threating at all and was very tall and muscular like most of the Bluegrass cats. If he could adjust to her clan’s ways he would most definitely be a valuable asset to the cats. Yet, this wasn’t a decision that she could make alone.
“I will consider you. But this is a decision have to talk to my Colonel and Majors about. You’ll wait here till I return with an answer.”
"Wait! What is your name?"
Turtlestar only flicked her tail in farewell. This time it was Turtlestar’s turn to walk away leaving Lizardsun feeling confused. She bounded away towards camp with her tail held high and feeling more energized than she had in moons. She knew that her Colonel and Majors would probably agree to allowing this cat join them but she loved that she could mess with him a little before.
